5 tips to help kickstart your spring clean
These 5 tips will help you kickstart your cottage spring cleaning because after a long winter, spring is in the air. It’s time to get that spring cleaning out of the way so we can be outside and enjoy those lovely summer days ahead.

Preparation
I like to start by preparing a homemade green all-purpose cleaner. I combine one quart of warm water, with 2 cups of white vinegar, and about 12 drops of essential oil. My favourites are peppermint or lavender essential oils. I screw the lid on, shake well, grab my microfiber cloths and I am ready.
Prepare a checklist so that you are organized and have a plan. Plus, it is a nice sense of accomplishment to cross items off the list.
Step 1 – Declutter:

Step 2 – Gather the Laundry:

Gather up all your linens, towels, throw rugs, and curtains for the wash. Leave your sheets on until you are finishing your head-to-toe dusting, then the sheets are headed to the wash as well.
Step 3 – Top-down:

Start at the top and work down. Use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe down the light fixtures, ceiling fans, window and door trim, walls, furniture and tables and baseboards. Don’t forget the top of the fridge and cabinets.
Step 4 – Fresh mattresses:

Sprinkle baking soda on the mattresses. Leave on the mattress for a bit of time and then vacuum up the baking soda and turn and rotate the mattress.
Step 5 – Kitchen Cupboards:
Using a clean, damp microfiber cloth, wipe down the cupboard fronts, handles, backsplash, and large kitchen appliances.
Remember to make it fun – clean with a friend and rock out to your favourite songs. I love to crank up Hot Fun in the Summertime – after all it’s almost summer.
